Relax.....

.......it was only a 4.7. But it sure felt stronger! Dale and I were settled down watching the season (and possibly series--does anyone know?) finale of King of the Hill and things started to rock and roll. We jumped up and ran to the patio door, clinging to each other. It was actually sort of hard to stand up, the movement was so strong. The shaking seemed to last pretty long. All I could think of was that the ceiling was going to collapse on top of us.
Finally the movement stopped and we began to access the damage. I had heard a lot of crashing and was hoping it wasn't any of the computers, and thankfully it was only a box of cassette tapes that fell off a shelf. Dale checked the gas line and then we went and checked on the neighbors. When we went to bed, Dale made sure the flashlights, scanner and our shoes were right next to the bed.
In the post-event assessment, I give us a bad score for not doing the "duck and cover" like we should have, although Dale did have the genius reaction to hit record on the DVR. I think I gave myself whiplash jumping up from the chair--my neck was killing me. Dale said he twisted his knee.

Wow, you're less than ten miles from the epicenter - which was RIGHT NEXT TO FREAKIN' LAX? Holy crap!

Yeah, Holy Crap is right...it was possibly the strongest jolts I've felt so far. I really thought the roof was going to come down. Apparently there was some structure damage in the area--windows, ceiling tiles, etc.

Relax, she says....... NOT!
It was my first 'quake that really hit me hard. I have had little shakes, but nothing like this! Nothing major happened by me... some stuff fell over on the kitchen counter.

Sheila--weren't you here for the Northridge one? I missed that one myself.
This one was pretty intense..I was scared.

Wow, that's crazy! I've never been in an earthquake--and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to be.

I'm glad you're okay! :)

MHP--thanks for thinking of me =)
It was pretty nerve-wracking but I'll take the 15 seconds of terror followed by an hour of high blood pressure over a week-long aftermath of a blizzard any day.

I hope King of the Hill never goes off the air. I'm originally from Texas and the writers for KOH are absolutely brilliant.

Buck--KOH is the best! I sure hope that it gets picked up again for another season. Rightly or wrongly, that show formed my idea of Texas. I've been there a few times in the last few years and I have had nothing but good times and found Texans to be the warmest and friendliest folks around. I will be going there often now that my niece moved to Austin. I was bummed I couldn't go to the Polka Convention last week in Ennis.
I was just there last month and because of KOH I went down to SanAntonio and went to The Alamo! Totally awesome! I hope to post about the trip soon, so keep checking back.
Did you see the show on 5/17? Hank built a backyard bar in the shape of The Alamo! Classic.
