Happy October

Ah...October is here. Fall is in the air--that is if your idea of fall is a hot, dry wind blowing and an air temperature of a thousand degrees. Humidity so low that you can actually feel the moisture being sucked out of your pores.
October does have some good things too....like Brett Favre and my mom's birthdays, but most of all lately, October has been preparation time for the yard haunt.
Each year we add more stuff, so it seems now the whole month is taken up with prep work. Painting, testing the foggers, re-furb.  Dale wants to have everything up by the 18th, so we have to get cracking.
So tonight, after a year's hiatus, Ms. Stuffy is back. She's sporting a new frock and new shawl and I also think she had a boob-job.

Yay Halloween decorations!
I asked the children here if they do Halloween. They said, "no, because we're Christian."

Awww, that's sad. I heard of of that here too, with the more fundamentalist Christians.
When I was a kid, I went to Catholic school--it was great for Halloween, because we had "holy days" off. So that meant we could go trick-or-treating and pig out on candy all night and no school the next day, because it was All Saint's Day!
One of the churches I attended here in CA has a "Pumpkin Mass" the Sunday before Halloween...the kids bring pumpkins and the priest would tell the "history" of the holiday.

I too grew up in Milwaukee and left when I went to grad school in IL, Since then have lived in Whittier CA, Lawrence KS, Scottsdale AZ, Santa Ana CA, Vienna VA and now Florence KY (suburb of Cincinnati). Still get back to Milwaukee every year- went up in August on the Harley for the HD 105th and stayed with my brother in Cudahy.

We are major major Halloweeners- Our yard is like Disneyland for the dead. We give small toys and candy and are well renowned in the neighborhood. As I speak hubby is out doing more decorating- it takes a week. Graveyard and all the hanging and animated stuff go out on the 31st. And I have 7 pumpkins to carve by Friday!

Jamie--thanks for stopping by! "Halloweeners"--I like that. We're pretty much done as of today, which was spent on just tweaking stuff. It's really fun and people seem to appreciate all the work.
If you scroll down to the bottom of the blog page, you can click on "The Legend of Real Spooky Place" which is a photo library of our haunt, with video of past years.
Happy Haunting!
