Ticketmaster--I Hate You!

Have you ever noticed that Ticketmaster charges EXORBITANT fees? For the last ten years or so, they have been adding fees to the ticket prices, so that now the fees are close to the price of the ticket!
Yesterday, I purchased tickets online (for Stereo-Total) and the fees came out to $13.27 PER TICKET!!! For a $19 ticket. That's usurious!

Here's the breakdown:
Building/Facility Fee = $1 x 2
Convenience Charge = $8.35 x 2 Can you even go buy tickets in a store anymore?!
Order Processing = $5.35 per order Shouldn't this just be rolled into the cost?
Ticket Fast = $.250 per order So I can use MY OWN printer and paper to print the tickets?!?!

Will I stop buying tickets? Probably not, but it really makes me mad.

They should be arrested cause that's extortion and that's a crime....probably run by the mob!

happy belated new year Mary Ruth!

Lisanne--all these little surcharges make me crazy...fuel, 9/11, baggage on the airplane...just raise the price and I'll deal with it.
Happy New Year to you too!

When we had our giant Metallica concert event, my best friend's mom was nice enough to go down to the Bradley Center and buy the tickets for us (none of us actually being in WI) so we didn't have to pay the ridiculous Ticketmaster fees.

The baggage thing wouldn't bother me so much if they didn't also ridiculously restrict what you can bring on the plane and then load passengers based on who has the least amount of hand luggage first.

GR--yeah, that's the only way to avoid the fees..go to the box office.
I never have experienced loading the plane according to amount of carry-on baggage. That's kinda weird.

I haven't actually had it happen to me yet, but I was walking through the airport in Detroit and one company was loading their flights that way. It really pissed me off. I mean, what do they want you to do, wear several layers and tuck a toothbrush in your pocket?!

GR--I travel light and resign myself to checking my bags--it is amazing what people bring on board.

Until I started working in the music industry (I don't anymore, thank god), I felt the same way about Ticketmaster. But blaming them completely for those inflated service charges shows how ignorant the public is about how the live entertainment business actually works. Read this article from Forbes and get educated before jumping on the "i hate ticketmaster" bandwagon. The ENTIRE industry--artists, promoters, managers, etc--is taking you for a ride...and having Ticketmaster take the fall.

Oh and if you've ever illegally downloaded music, then you can partly lay the blame on yourself as well.

http://www.forbes.com/2009/02/11/ticketmaster-live-nation-tickets-concerts-business-media_0211_tickets.htmlI hate the system so much now that I only see indie bands at small club shows where I pay a cover at the door. The entire industry sucks.

I don't see anything from the Forbes article to make me change my mind about TicketMaster. TicketMaster is still a ripoff. I don't have problems paying the artists for the price they want. It is the 30% surcharge that TicketMaster takes that I have problem with. TicketMaster needs competition.

I wonder how many people will be willing to put in $10 to start a company to give TicketMaster competition.
